Plamena Milusheva and her team at LMN Architects have developed PODD, short for Post Occupancy Data Device, a tissue box–size collection of sensors that track, store, and upload environmental conditions data every few minutes. A single PODD unit can measure air particles, temperature, and humidity, as well as light, sound, and CO2 levels. Photo courtesy Adam Hunter/LMN Architects

Track and Communicate Your Progress

Design a Format to Tell Your Story

Find a simple format to capture project assessments that give your teams and stakeholders all the vital sustainability information at a glance. You can adopt an existing framework to design this format.

Include Interiors in Carbon Assessments

If the architects, engineers, or contractors are conducting a whole building Life Cycle Assessment, ask for interiors to be included. Ensure that the frequency of renovations or tenant improvements is accounted for in the assessment.

Track Carbon Throughout the Project

Find ways to track the impact of project decisions on the carbon footprint through regular assessment at every stage, and then evaluate projects at the end or after occupancy.

Conduct Weekly Assessments

Carve out time every week for carbon assessments. Use LCA calculators to assess past projects and hone your methodology, then start to assess ongoing projects.
