The Silencio chair looks like a cross between an egg and Volkswagen’s updated Beatle. Even without its optional acrylic side panels, it’s a virtual cocoon whose plush upholstery really does cut down surrounding noise—just as its name promises.
Launched last October in Europe by Trendway’s partner Interstuhl, Silencio is just now available in this country. I test-drove one for about ten minutes on Monday to escape the din and roar of the NeoCon crowd. While the chair was comfortable, I found its overhead mirror just a tad strange. Was I supposed to be combing my hair—or might traffic overtake me if I spent too much time looking at my reflection?
