This month’s cover features British designer Tom Dixon. He sits in his Wingback chair inside Shoreditch House, a space he designed in London. There was the typical difficulty in setting up an overseas shoot during the holidays. But once the image came in, we were able to respond to photographer David Balhuizen’s set-up. His framing allowed us to carve out an intriguing shape that simultaneously emphasized the chair, person and interior—and created coveted white space. When the original idea was presented, editorial director Paul Makovsky mentioned that it seemed as if he was waiting for something. Since his new line of products is just being introduced in America, the familiar cover line (thank you, Norma Desmond) was adapted accordingly.
