The marriage of beauty and sustainability is a common goal for many manufacturers. With Poly, Metro’s family of side and swivel chairs—as well as matching lounges and ottomans—such a coupling was achieved. “We wanted to design a chair that could readily fit into a residential or corporate setting while keeping in mind that the chair had to be recycle-ready from the moment it was made,” explains Rick Wooldridge, sales consultant for the Oakland, Calif. company, a subsidiary of Steelcase. “We didn’t want the materials to be something you had to wait 10 years to be able to recycle.” Using a non-woven PET fiber and 100% recycled polyester fabric for its shell and metal framing comprised of VOC-free abrasion resistant powder coating, Poly’s seating components are more than 25% recyclable by weight. The fabric, designed by Laura Guido-Clark in collaboration with Metro, Poly is available in 10 colorways.
