Special Japanese Boxes

The stackable, handmade, cylindrical boxes designed by Japanese architect Toshihiko Suzuki and crafted by Yoshimasa and Yoshinobu Shibata are exquisite examples of the country’s traditional craftwork (which is in danger of extinction for lack of younger practitioners).

Made from Japanese cedar, the cylindrical boxes feature classical Japanese designs with the addition of a number of voluptuous swags added by Suzuki. The ends of each cylinder are then delicately sewn together using strips of cherry bark and naturally finished, allowing the wood to speak for itself.
