METROPOLIS Arch30 Celebrates NYC’s Rising Architectural Stars
Arch30 NYC event took place in October and brought together 35 talented architects from leading firms. These rising stars represent the future of architecture, showcasing innovation and creativity within some of the city’s most influential and challenging design environments.
The Arch30 gathering highlighted the dynamic contributions of these architects, reinforcing New York City’s status as a hub for cutting-edge architectural talent. The event provided a platform for networking, idea exchange, as well as learning about the innovative new product offerings from the event’s sponsor manufacturers.

Architects recognized in this cohort were nominated by their firm leadership and professional networks across New York City. Together, they represent a wide range of leading practices, including CetraRuddy, Fogarty Finger, Gensler, HDR, DLR, MG2, NBBJ, Perkins Eastman, M Moser Associates, SHoP Architects, Spacesmith, Ennead Architects, WRNS Studio, ZGF, FXCollaborative, HLW, KPF, COOKFOX Architects, Dattner Architects, Perkins&Will, and SOM.
The inspiring workshop was hosted by Ennead Architects and made possible with the support of Arktura, Behr Paint Company, Impact Acoustic, Infinity Drain, KI, Kwik-Wall, Metro-Wall, Tate Inc., & Turf.
Exploring Purpose, Creativity, and Career Growth
METROPOLIS editor-in-chief Avi Rajagopal led an engaging workshop designed to guide emerging professionals toward reflecting on meaningful work and life’s purpose while equipping them with strategies to navigate workplace challenges.
The Arch30 honorees participated in a series of reflective and interactive activities. They began with Mentimeter questions to understand personal preferences, how and where they learn, and what they find challenging. Next, they engaged in an Ikigai exercise—inspired by the Japanese concept of “reason for being.” This exercise encouraged participants to explore the question, “What is my purpose?” By reflecting on their personal values, interests, and unique strengths, the honorees discovered new ways to align their careers with their passions and motivations.
Discussions addressed creating time for creative work, navigating workplace complexities, advancing sustainability, and embracing architects’ roles as agents of change. Participants exchanged insights and emphasized the need for synergy across disciplines, highlighting a collective vision for a more connected and innovative industry.
Additionally, the dialogue highlighted the critical need for work-life balance, equitable growth opportunities, and fair compensation. Acknowledging past critiques of the architectural field—such as long hours, inadequate pay, and vulnerability of junior staff—this cohort was committed to achieving architectural excellence while upholding principles of well-being within the profession.
The workshop series concluded with a networking hour and trade show setup organized by our program partners. This was an engaging networking session where the honorees had the opportunity to connect, explore new products, and share ideas
