Metropolis Unveils Its Game Changers 2014

Metropolis unveils its 4th annual Game Changers.

Our Game Changers this year specialize in big-picture thinking. They’re all engaged in ambitious pursuits: Developer Jonathan Rose continuously proves that housing can be both affordable and sustainable; Susan Weber is redefining design scholarship at the Bard Graduate Center; Alastair Parvin holds out the illusive promise of democratic design with the WikiHouse; Phil Jones uses urban farming and healthy food to tackle the problems of Detroit; and architect Eric Owen Moss and his longtime developer collaborators, Frederick and Laurie Samitaur Smith, have, in 20 short years, completely reshaped a neighborhood in Los Angeles. All these expansive efforts, however, are rooted in the idea of community, one way or another. And that’s ultimately what gives them real power.
