New Looks for Glass Walls
Designs by Piero Lissoni and Suzanne Tick are providing a fresh take on glass partition walls.
Glass walls are receiving dynamic makeovers in time for their elevated roles as safety screens in post-pandemic interiors. Patchwork, for example, is Italian architect Piero Lissoni’s exuberant update of Glas Italia’s wall system Sherazade, which he originally designed in 2016. Its door panels feature infills that mix rectangular and square panes of tempered and laminate glass, which come clear or colored. The system’s new look “was partially inspired by Dutch painter Piet Mondrian’s compositions and his use of primary colors,” he says. Available in sliding-, revolving-, and pocketdoor versions, units can be installed fixed or along a rail in the ceiling.
Obscura, a collection of decorative vinyl film for glass, is textile designer and weaver Suzanne Tick’s latest offering for Skyline Design. By translating patterns typical in fiber art to other media, Tick demonstrates her mastery of materials. Available in six colors and two styles (Horizon and Perspective), the film can add privacy and safety markings to architectural glass. The collection is her fourth for the company and follows her award-winning 2017 digitally printed glass Transcend.
