This San Francisco-based company is launching at ICFF with an impressive roster: Arik Levy, One & Co., Khodi Feiz, Mike and Maaike, and Derek Chen have all created designs for the debut collection. Chen, one of the founders, says they are trying to fill an upscale gap in the U.S. market for residential design. Now that an abundance of less-expensive pieces have created a market for contemporary design, he feels there is a need for higher-quality American-made furniture. Chen’s own contribution is an appealingly abstract steel bench called Section, which comes polished, powder coated, with an outer veneer warp, or with thin upholstery. The streamlined modular piece also works as a place for quick storage. However, my favorite piece is Feiz’s Peel chaise and chair. Discreet blocks of color in one position, a hinged flap on one end lifts and folds to provide an easy back rest. It’s this feature that gives the design it’s name. Peel up the flap and you reveal another shade of upholstery underneath—much like skinning an orange.
