Although there are dozens of Italian manufacturers at the fair—each with their own products—the impressive collective presence makes a larger branding statement. It says, simply, “Welcome to the wonderful world of Italian design.”
Each year Federlegno-Arredo, the Italian trade commission, does an elegant job pulling all of the exhibitors together in a way that promotes specific products while selling a bigger idea: economic growth through the engine of good design. Walking the aisles of the show, I couldn’t help but think that being a furniture designer in Italy must be a lot like being an architect in Holland; a land of infinite possibilities.
