Space dividers grab the attention of countless designers, who deliver freestanding screens, taut scrims, hanging textiles, and sliding walls. San Francisco lighting designer Pablo Pardo has cross-fertilized the screen with the lamp in his new Ventana.
Working like a window shade, Ventana is equipped with low voltage MR16 bulbs across its lower rod. When the screen is pulled down, the bulbs can be directed upwards, illuminating the semitransparent vinyl “shade” portion. When the screen is closed, the rod can be rotated and the light directed downward, transforming the screen into a light source.
