Tom Vriesman and Rick Edwards designed this year’s ICFF booth for Herman Miller for the Home. With the exception of the convention-center-issued flooring, everything inside is black and white, from the wall partitions to the classic Noguchi and Eames pieces on display.
Why? Says Vriesman, the color palette stresses “authenticity.” Indeed, Herman Miller is flying its “Get Real” campaign at ICFF, an “anti-knockoff” message, as Vriesman puts it.
Herman Miller isn’t the only company to associate black and white with truth in design. Over at the House of European Design, Peter Maly’s “black and white” special edition of highly lacquered furniture emphasizes, according to the accompanying description of the line, an authentically minimal lifestyle.
