Aedifica offers a variety of services: sustainability, architecture, workplace design, retail design, engineering, and urban design. After 11 years in its offices at 606 Cathcart, and in the midst of the pandemic, the company had the opportunity to reflect on the purpose of an office in the context of hybrid work and completely rethink how its teams function. The new office received a Platinum LEED v4 ID+C certification for Commercial Interiors with WELL v2 certification currently underway, seeking a Platinum level. The Aedifica team conducted a life cycle assessment of all the materials used in the renovation, and the total embodied carbon emissions were 34 tons of CO2 equivalent, many times lower than a comparable conventional office renovation. The life cycle analysis reinforced the importance of sobriety, so finishing materials were kept to a minimum. The embodied carbon was amortized for ten years and has been fully offset.
