Founded in 2014, Floyd has quickly built upon the success of its lightweight flat-packed bed, designing a table, desk, side table, and DIY furniture hardware, all with an ethos of simplicity and durability. Now, the Detroit-based company aims to tackle a furniture type that has resisted flat-packing better than most: the sofa. “We’ve re-thought products for the bedroom and kitchen,” said Kyle Hoff, Floyd’s cofounder and CEO, in a statement, “and we’re excited to solve for the most important product of the home: a sofa that is beautiful, comfortable, and can move and grow with people over time.”
Floyd’s two-year, in-house design process began with a survey that queried customers about how they used their sofas, as well as what they sought in their next sofa. The resulting sofa design, like other Floyd products, features powder-coated steel and birch plywood frame. The plywood can be left bare or upholstered in light blue, dark blue, mustard yellow, or light gray colorways. The manufacturer says the sofa’s straightforward appearance is matched by its simple construction, with assembly only taking minutes.
The Floyd Sofa comes in two-seat, three-seat, or sectional (three-seat with chaise) configurations. Prices range from $1,200 to $2,300, with a pre-sale beginning on September 20th.
