2016
Light Lab
The Light Lab, Mohawk Group’s commercial flooring design center, was the first project in the state of Georgia and the first restoration project in the entire Southeast to receive the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge Petal Certification. The Living Building Challenge defines the most advanced measure of sustainability possible in the built environment today. The Light Lab satisfied the requirements for the program’s Site, Health, Materials, Equity, and Beauty Petal performance categories
2018
Smartflower Program
Mohawk Group and Groundswell unveiled the first of 10 smartflower energy units nationwide during NeoCon. The system was installed at The Renaissance Collaborative, a community development corporation in Chicago that promotes self-sufficiency for members of the Bronzeville community. The goal of the partnership, a part of the certification of Mohawk Group’s Living Products, is to bring the benefits of solar energy and educational opportunities to underserved communities and schools with STEM programs
2019
Living Site
Through innovations in materials, manufacturing and community involvement, Mohawk Group’s carpet tile platform is now Living Product Challenge Petal Certified through the International Living Future Institute. Modular flooring styles created at its Glasgow, Virginia plant on EcoFlex Red List–free backings now meet stringent requirements to be classified as Living Products. As the genesis of more than 300 Living Product styles, Mohawk Group refers to this sustainable facility as its Living Site. Never before has this level of certification within the Challenge been accomplished by a product manufacturer.
