Using Recycled Newspaper
We use 500,000 tons of recycled newsprint paper to manufacture USG wallboard and ceiling products. Each ton saves of 7,000 gallons of water, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space and enough electricity to power an average U.S. home for six months. It also reduces carbon emissions by the equivalent of one metric ton.

EcoSmart Gypsum Panels
USG launched Sheetrock® Brand EcoSmart gypsum panels and became the only wallboard manufacturer to join the Architecture 2030 Challenge for Products. Sheetrock® Brand EcoSmart panels use up to 25% less water to manufacture and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 20%, as well as supporting the challenge’s greater effort to design, build and operate carbon-neutral buildings by 2030.
