Like the artist that views her painting upside down to see the work in a new way, the designers represented by Citizen:Citizen approach classic forms with a cheeky new perspective. “Our pieces are about getting someone to rethink an object,” marketing director Ruth Townshend says. “We are not about the newest and most advanced materials, but about taking existing materials and recontextualizing them—using them in new ways.” Tobias Wong’s rubber-dipped chandelier, for example, is infused with humor yet maintains its essential beauty. “2006 is our year!” says Townshend, who along with owner and creative director Philip Wood just opened a San Francisco showroom. “ICFF is a huge opportunity for us to let people know we are here. It is all part of our plan for global dominion!”
