METROPOLIS Arch30 Atlanta: Emerging Leaders Gather at TVS

Atlanta’s next generation of architects, affiliated with leading firms, convened for METROPOLIS’s Arch30 event, celebrating innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.

Atlanta’s next generation of architectural leaders recently convened at the offices of TVS Design for the latest edition of the METROPOLIS Arch30 program, an immersive gathering focused on leadership, collaboration, and architects’ evolving role in shaping more equitable and innovative communities.

Hosted by TVS and led by Verda Alexander of Studio O+A and Editor at Large at METROPOLIS, the Atlanta cohort brought together emerging professionals from many of the region’s most influential firms. Participants represented a wide cross-section of the industry, including Niles Bolton Associates, HLG Studio, Dynamik Design, SLAM Collaborative, PRAXIS3, Lease Crutcher Lewis, Gensler, HKS, HOK, Perkins&Will, Novus Architects, TVS Design, DLR Group, HDR, Smallwood, Smith Dalia Architects, Houser Walker, and SmithGroup.

A defining characteristic of the Atlanta cohort was the strong presence of leaders affiliated with the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), reflecting the city’s longstanding commitment to diversity, mentorship, and expanding pathways within the profession. Representatives connected through both NOMA and the AIA community contributed perspectives rooted in advocacy, inclusion, and design leadership, reinforcing the program’s emphasis on building a more representative future for architecture.

Leadership Beyond the Project

Throughout the day, participants engaged in a series of collaborative workshops and candid conversations exploring what leadership means in today’s architectural landscape. Guided by Verda Alexander’s perspective on creativity, workplace culture, and human-centered design, the sessions encouraged attendees to think beyond project delivery and consider how architects can influence organizational culture, mentorship, and community impact.

Interactive discussions challenged honorees to reflect on the values shaping their careers and how those values intersect with evolving industry priorities—from sustainability and social equity to technological innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Through small-group exercises and peer dialogue, the cohort explored how emerging leaders can navigate practice while remaining connected to purpose and authenticity.

Building Community Across Firms

As the workshops transitioned into an evening reception, the energy shifted from strategic brainstorming to community building. The informal setting allowed honorees and industry partners to forge new alliances, dissolving the traditional silos that often separate competing firms.

By the conclusion of the Atlanta Arch30 gathering, the participants left with far more than an expanded professional network. They departed with a strengthened sense of community and a shared commitment to advancing the future of architecture through leadership, inclusion, and collaboration.
