METROPOLIS Celebrates the Arch30 Dallas Cohort

They city’s most promising emerging architects, affiliated with influential firms, convened for METROPOLIS’s Arch30 event held in September.

METROPOLIS’s Arch30 program recognizes the next generation of leadership in architecture, with leading firms in a city identifying their top talent under the age of 30. Each group meets for a workshop led by METROPOLIS editors, followed by networking opportunities with program partners. This past September, METROPOLIS honored its sixth cohort of young architects in Dallas.

The selected professionals from Dallas were nominated by their firms and DFW NOMA, and represented 5g Studio, Agent Architecture, ARRIVE Architecture Group, Azimuth Architecture, Corgan, DLR Group, FAR + DANG, Flick Mars, Gensler, HDR, HKS, HOK, IDG+ Architects, LRK, Murphy Cramer, OMNIPLAN, Overland Partners, PBK, Perkins&Will, Populous, SmithGroup, Stantec, Type Six Design, and VLK Architects.

The inspiring workshop was hosted by Corgan and made possible with the support of GroheTecno, Calyx by Claridge, Material Bank, TURF, and AHF.

Supporting Arch30 Dallas Honorees in Finding Purpose

METROPOLIS editor-at-large Verda Alexander and senior editor Francisco Brown led an impactful workshop designed to help emerging professionals recognize and pursue work that is meaningful, while also offering strategies for overcoming workplace challenges.

The Arch30 honorees took part in a series of reflective and interactive sessions, beginning with an Ikigai exercise. This practice, rooted in the Japanese concept of “reason for being,” encourages participants to consider the question, “What is my purpose?” Through this exercise, the honorees were prompted to reflect on their personal values, interests, and unique strengths, gaining insights into how they might align their career path with their passions and motivations.

Exploring the Shifting Landscape of Architecture

Later sessions addressed important trends in the architectural field and their implications for the professionals in the room. Topics included navigating the complexities of today’s workplace, achieving work-life balance, advancing sustainability, and embracing the architect’s role as a changemaker. Participants shared perspectives on what they need from the industry, underscoring a desire for increased collaboration across various disciplines.

The workshop series concluded with presentations from program partners, followed by an engaging networking session where honorees had the chance to connect and share ideas.
