Mikael Hoilund is a busy man. An architect, he designed the Danish contingent’s ICFF booths this year and last; a furniture designer, he is half of studio Dnmark.dk, which created last year’s lauded Low seat.
Hoilund’s latest work is the three-in-one Miima chair. Still in the prototype stage, Miima has a tilted back and sits close to the ground, but has greater bulk than Low. There are deep, u-shaped cut-outs between the chair’s square arms and backrest; beneath each arm there is also a recessed area in which Hoilund has embedded double-sided wood veneer. These two laminated panels are reversible (one side is cherry, the other zebrawood) and can be removed, leaving the chair clad only in its upholstery.
