Wright Set to Auction Items from the Exquisite Robert and Ruth Vogele Collection
A selection from the 20th-century collection, which includes pieces by Harry Bertoia, Robert Motherwell, the Eames, and more, will be auctioned on April 25.
While most people encounter coveted works of art and design in a museum or gallery setting, well-heeled aficionados will have the opportunity to acquire some for themselves. On April 25, the Wright auction house in Chicago will offer up a selection of 20th-century pieces from the Robert and Ruth Vogele Collection, preceded by a weeklong public exhibition of the lot.
A cursory glance at the items reveals a range of fine art, folk and ethnographic works, and Modern design, from the experimental sonic sculptures of Harry Bertoia to the geometric graphic designs of Herbert Bayer (Yellow Mirage, 1963, pictured below). The collection encapsulates the couple’s more than 60 years of marriage, during which they made numerous acquisitions culled from cross-country travel and close relationships with artists.
With this auction, the Vogele Collection offers would-be patrons an excerpt from the midcentury and Postmodern movements, highlighting works by some of the most significant figures of their time.
