Muuto Releases a Slew of New Designs
The new products include a new table mirror from Normal Studio, a new chaise from Anderssen & Voll, and a new bar stool from designer Thomas Bentzen.
Copenhagen-based furniture company Muuto kicked off the new year by announcing fresh designs and updated versions of older products.
Among the new releases are the Loft Bar Stool by Danish designer Thomas Bentzen, a powder-coated steel and wood veneer design available in ten different color and material variations, a new upholstered take on the Muuto Fiber Armchair by Danish studio Iskos-Berlin, and a new chaise lounge addition to Muuto’s Outline Sofa family by Norwegian designers Anderssen & Voll. Other releases include a resin-and-ABS tabletop mirror by the French duo Normal Studio and four new colorways for The Dots Coat Hooks by Norwegian designer Lars Tornøe.
The announcement is the first major news from Muuto since last month when the company said it had been purchased by Knoll. The acquisition has been part of a broader industry shift toward “resimerical” design: as workplace design increasingly takes cues from homes and hotels, contract companies are adapting by strategically pairing up with residential and lighting brands. Andrew Cogan, president and CEO of Knoll, said in a press release that “Muuto is a ‘resimercial’ design-driven, creative Scandinavian brand representing global style for the workplace and home. We have been tracking their explosive emergence on the workplace and residential scene in both Europe and North America for some time now.” He went on to say, “Muuto products pair seamlessly with the range of modern Knoll designs, offering an expanded breadth and depth of affordable luxury products that reflect today’s evolving work styles and trends in residential design, with particular appeal to a younger generation of architects, designers and clients and those seeking a homier, more relaxed aesthetic.”
Anders Cleemann, CEO of Muuto, added, “Muuto and Knoll pursue perfection in design and quality. Knoll is an extraordinary partner to assure the continued growth of our brand to wider audiences. We share Knoll’s commitment to working with residential clients and companies that are transforming their work environments as their employees’ work styles evolve.”
