Tall trees, lush ferns, leafy canopies—you can see them all in Boska, a windowless restaurant that opened recently in Plaza Escenaria, in Mexico City’s San Jeronimo neighborhood. Local architect Michel Rojkind and industrial designer Hector Esrawe have created a forest motif for the interior. Wood is featured prominently throughout the design—from the trunklike strip of teak that runs diagonally across the tall ceiling of the space to the custom-fabricated walnut tables and chair backs. It is complemented by the illusion of verdant greenery: patches of grass, leaves, and ferns line the chairs, which have been upholstered in fabrics specially designed by Esrawe. Photographer Lara Becerra’s woodland scene, which lines the rear wall and is lit to realistic effect, completes the illusion that Boska is nestled in a forest clearing rather than enclosed in a cramped urban space.
