Drawing upon a German technique for molding 3-D veneers, Copenhagen-based Gubi has created a new member for its seating line: a lounge chair. Like the Gubi chair and stool, the lounger has a broad, clean, arcing shell, the lips of which are curved downwards in a way that is both welcoming and austerely sculptural. Because the lounger’s seat is only five millimeters thick, it has a very slender profile—and only requires half of the amount of wood that is usually needed to manufacture a product of its size. The lounge chair is available with a chrome or satin-chrome base, and with a beech, maple, oak, or walnut veneer. It can be either front-padded or fully upholstered in leather or fabric.
