On display this year at ICFF is a full-scale, flat-pack dwelling designed and assembled by undergraduates in the Product Design department at Parsons The New School for Design. They are part of a collaborative project with students at the St. Etienne School of Art and Design in France, and students from Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm. Both the Parsons and St. Etienne students were instructed to design sleeping and living units that can be arranged together or stand alone. Students from Konstfack are in charge of the major provisions of the unit including power supplies and furnishings.
These students will meet in Hällefors, Sweden on June 1st where they will construct the houses on a former industrial railway bridge that spans the Black River with donations from Ikea. Once their collaborative design is realized, artists-in-residence from the local design museum and research center, Formens Hus, will inhabit the structure for two-week intervals. The occupancy of such an international structure should be very inspiring.
