NYCxDESIGN Announces a Slate of Activities and Activations for 2021
Virtual and self-guided events dominate the spring lineup, but the nonprofit hopes to begin carefully planned in person programming.
Featuring self-guided neighborhood tours, outdoor installations, digital conferences, and safely organized in-person events, NYCxDESIGN’s 2021 schedule shows the organization’s commitment to continuing on despite uncertainty around the pandemic. The organization, which is focused on celebrating and supporting New York’s design scene, hasn’t been able to resume in-person programming since NYCxDESIGN: The Festival was cancelled last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, armed with non-profit status the organization acquired in November of last year, NYCxDESIGN has announced an ambitious slate of digital events and cautious optimism about the possibility of in-person activations.
Spring events will include the launch of a spring edition of NYCxDESIGN: The Magazine (May 1), as well as Design Days (May 13–18). With a hybrid of digital events, self-guided tours, and outdoor installations, Design Days are focused on celebrating outstanding designers and design practices across the city.
In the fall the organization will reprise its Ode to NYC program. And, pandemic permitting, November will see long-awaited return of NYCxDESIGN: The Festival.
Additional initiatives such as NYCxDESIGN’s podcast, The Mic, and network of designers who volunteer their time and talent to help struggling small businesses, Design Corps will be ongoing throughout the year.
