Snowboarding, biking, and other technology-driven sports inspired the design of Christophe Marchand’s first chair. “Sports have intelligent systems that aren’t used in business,” explains the Swiss-based Marchand when describing the unusual assortment of materials he sculpted into the ProActive chair.
The transparent frame uses the same PET plastic that one finds in bottles. But the back and other parts of the chair that directly support the body are rendered in a silicone material that provides comfortable flexibility without permanent deformation. Marchand cites swimmer’s flippers as his inspiration for this use of material.
Elegant, sexy, and even sporty, the ProActive chair is one office chair that’s made to move.
