The Kids Are Alright
Checking in on a young architect’s stylish day-care center in Copenhagen
Way back in 2006, I wrote about a pair of Copenhagen day-care centers by the young Danish architect Dorte Mandrup-Poulsen. Yesterday, Arch Daily posted some new photos of one of the projects, which is still looking good despite all the grubby little fingers that have pressed against its silk-screened glass and granulated-rubber play areas.
The latter are partially housed on the rooftop because the low-slung building occupies almost the entire site. “The whole point was to build a day-care institution on the small side—only one story—so as not to take light away from the neighbors,” Mandrup-Poulsen told me in 2006.
