The Official Guide to NYCxDESIGN 2016

Everything you need to know about New York’s 12th annual design celebration.

Welcome to the 12th edition of Metropolis magazine’s New York Design Guide. This pocket-size guide will serve as your compass, directing you toward the spaces, places, and events you won’t want to miss during our expanded design days (now over two weeks, May 3–17), and throughout the coming year.

NYCxDESIGN is a celebration organized by New York City to communicate information about our city as the center of design talent, and at no time is that talent more visible than during design days in May. In recent years, New York has become a booming design destination, with areas like the Seaport and Flatiron districts, now Lexington Ave in the 30s, where Metropolis‘s new office is located. In fact, all our five boroughs are transforming into bustling hubs of creative energy. This year’s events are spread throughout the city and in every borough.

We’re proud to present the New York City Design Guide as the official publication of NYCxDESIGN 2016. The publication is organized around notable neighborhoods, and we invited you to use it to find, shop, see, and experience the very best of design in our hometown.

Use the Neighborhood Listings to find everything from galleries and museums to restaurants, shops, and showrooms. Live like a local with Design Picks, as top designers and curators share their favorite neighborhood places. Hop on the NYCxDESIGN Shuttle Bus to visit the Design Essentials, a curated collection of must-see places and events. Explore Design Destinations—major furnishings-showroom hubs—and glimpse their cutting-edge contents.

Be sure to check our up-to-the-minute event listings to know where you need to be for all the openings, parties, and events around town. The physical guide will be available at the following venues and cultural institutions:
