Lessons Learned: ARO’s Riverdale Country School Opens
The school puts into practice lessons learned from a transitional space that students occupied in the months the building was under construction.

Riverdale Country School’s state-of-the-art Upper Learning Building, designed by New York–based Architecture Research Office (ARO), opened to the public just last month. The 23,000-square-foot building, located in the Bronx, puts into practice lessons learned from a transitional school students occupied while the building was under construction. As Metropolis contributor Anne Quito noted in our September issue, in “Pedagogical Protoype,” the seating, pinnable boards, and shelves outside the classrooms and along the corridors (to encourage gathering) were all prototyped in the transitional space.
