Of the cohort of Modern designers working in postwar Italy, few rivaled Gio Ponti—either in sheer prolificacy or in blending industrial and craft inspirations and processes. An upcoming exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris celebrates the dexterity of Ponti’s body of work, traversing furniture, product, and architectural design.
Tutto Ponti: Gio Ponti, Archi-Designer will incorporate objects and drawings reflecting, as its name suggests, all aspects of the Milan-born designer’s career, including furnishings for classic Italian brands like Cassina and Artemide and even journals (Ponti was founding editor of still-published design monthly Domus). Over 500 pieces will be arranged in the main hall of the museum, aiming to introduce the mythic Italian figure to French and international audiences.
Tutto Ponti: Gio Ponti, Archi-Designer will be on view at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs from October 19, 2018 to February 10, 2019
