Mexico City’s LIGA Features Exhibition by Pedro y Juana
The Mexico City–based duo Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo and Mecky Reuss (who work under the moniker Pedro y Juana) were recently selected for this year’s MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program.
In 2011, LIGA became Latin America’s first independent space entirely focused on architecture exhibitions, operating out of a high-rise in Mexico City’s trendy Roma neighborhood. But following the September 2017 earthquake that ravaged the capital, the gallery was forced to relocate. Its freshly inaugurated home is in La Laguna, an old textile factory in the nearby Doctores district that is quickly becoming a hub for small manufacturers and design studios. This month, the newly minted LIGA debuted a project by Mexico City–based duo Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo and Mecky Reuss, who work under the moniker Pedro y Juana and were recently selected for this year’s MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program. Their Mexico City installation, called ¡El horizonte es nuestro! (“The horizon is ours!”), considers the diorama as “a radical architectural gesture,” according to LIGA, casting a series of everyday objects—many of which relate to the city’s famous informal economy—as a “window to the city.”
