Two New Flooring Products Expand Low-VOC and Recyclable Options
Manufacturers Tarkett and Smith & Fong have expanded offerings suitable for LEED-targeted commercial interiors.
Flooring covers a huge surface area in commercial interiors, so it’s one specification designers should ensure has low-VOC and low-carbon ingredients. New options from Tarkett carry an Environmental Product Declaration and eligibility for ReStart, the company’s reclamation and recycling program. Additions to the Fabric + Form Collection—two carpet patterns, Aida Cloth (shown) and Suede Tones, and a new style of luxury vinyl tile called Entwine—are designed to work together. That makes it easier for designers to match carpets and hard surfacing in environments where the materials underfoot must shift to suit the programming.
In an extension of its Durapalm line, manufacturer Smith & Fong is offering a wider, longer version of Deco Palm flooring planks, which are composed of a sustainable veneer of India black palm on a bamboo substrate. The chunkier 6-by-72-inch planks enable faster installation because of the heftier profile. They are also low-VOC and formaldehyde-free, which helps contribute to a project’s LEED credits.
